Hot Dog

Hot Dog dreams of a tail, feet, and a head, only to discover that even achieving life is not as fun as hoped. How will Flo – the ice cream girl, turn the day from bitter to sweet?

Standing lonely on a beach stand, Hot Dog dreams of his ideal life where he could play, chase and sniff. The solution comes with a fairy tale element where the Mustard Fairy grants a wish with ‘squirt’. Soon, the sausage dog faces a challenge from the other dogs on the beach, who have instincts for tasty food. Dashing is the option to survive, but he stops at Flo’s stall, sensibly begging for help. And how the ice cream owner handles the request – she took it by heart. Not only that, but Flo had a surprising offer as the sunset drew.

“Hot Dog” is a summer story woven with the message that even the best dreams have a negative site when they come to a reality.  Without being over-didactic, Sperring shows that asking for help should be considered when facing danger.  The book bursts with summer colours and playful characters enjoying everything a hot day near the beach can offer: ice cream, sand castle, swimming. As many primary school children are fond of dogs, the ‘doggy style’ book cover will appeal to readers as a choice of reading.
