“When Luna dances it’s like the world’s volume turns up”
Twirling, leaping, pirouetting, Luna’s natural ability is featured in the third entry to the series, Luna Loves … Luna wishes to be a real dancer and believes that holding a certificate is what would make her professional. Not surprisingly, her heart sinks when she stumbles in the exam performance and feels her dream is lost.
With fantastic support from family, attending several dance events is what brings the twirl back into her feet. Without even noticing, she joins her grandparents in Crazy Legs and Charleston, and soon moves like Scooby Doo at the buzzing festival. Leaping, tapping and twirling at her cousin’s birthday party, Luna proves that she is a “real dancer”.
“Luna Loves Dance” focuses on the feelings related to passing or failing an exam and the overvaluing of formal approval over our passion and being ourselves. The story offers vibrant dance scenes with its peak at the gate-folded page, revealing the festival’s dynamic. The diverse sceneries appeal to a broader readership; however, that perspective at times dilutes from the central theme of dance.
In addition to its engaging narrative, the story brings important life lessons about resilience, self-acceptance, and the idea that true accomplishment comes from joy rather than external validation. “Luna Loves Dance” would be a great addition to multicultural classrooms and parents who wish to prepare children for the feelings of taking a formal exam.
Colourful with diversity to the brim, keep dancing even without a certificate!
