Our planet is where every species and environment plays a crucial role. It was a joy to discover Tom Percival and Richard Jones’s recently published ‘Quiet’ in my local library, a book beautifully capturing this essence.
How can a seemingly insignificant bird wield such a profound influence on the forest community?
“Quiet” follows a red bird that enjoys the quiet rather than the noise of the forest until the day she needs to put her personality behind and stand for the common good! A bulldozer brings chaos to the forest life, and when the inhabitants suggest an evacuation plan, the tiny bird acts courageously and encourages everyone to act as a team.
‘Quiet’ is a fable-type story in which everyone has something to offer: “whether big or small, timid or bold, quiet or loud…” The story celebrates nature through words and stunning muted-coloured illustrations in natural colours. The book looks into many issues: personality differences, solving problems, the power of the team, and environmentalism, and it will make it a perfect addition to any collection celebrating World Earths Day and beyond!
