The Something

Everything starts with a hole under a cherry tree when a little boy, accompanied by his dog, discovers that his ball didn’t bounce back. What could be hiding there? His curiosity is fired, and he tries to find the answer by asking family members and friends. Everyone seems to have ideas of his own that show the spun of their imagination varying from realistic to magical: mum thinks it’s a door to a mouse house, but his best friend is sure that it is a dragon talking only from ‘experience’.

“The Something” is a story set through the seasons with a short text and a comprehensible vocabulary. It would be engaging reading for children between 3 and 6 years old who would identify with the fantasies they experience about something invisible that is hiding somewhere in the corner, behind the door or outside. The pencil illustrations are beautiful, showing curiosity, disappointment, fear, and dreams depicted on the boy’s face.

The book tackles the issue of children’s fantasies, colourful or scary, and may provoke spontaneous discussion.
